Education is a life-long endeavor and one that is never complete. This is one of the very important lessons I try to instill in my children. Therefore, I love stories to be able to show them because it is an example of someone who took that phrase seriously and persevered over the obstacles…while inspiring their son in the process.

Last Friday, 63-year-old Duvison Jeanty did something not many people get to experience. He graduated from college alongside his 27-year-old son, at the same time. The special moment has become an internet sensation as the rare feat is celebrated by people all around the world.

Duvinson and his 27-year-old son Benjamin Jeanty had the opportunity to walk the stage for graduation from William Paterson University in New Jersy. To make the story even better, they are the first two individuals in their family to get their college degrees. Duvinson graduate with a degree in finance and Benjamin in psychology.

The father actually inspired his son to continue his college education and pursue his degree. Benjamin started college in 2008 at Rutgers University but dropped out to start working and earning money. It can be difficult to go back to college after making some money, but when his father, who had been retired after 25 years of working as a New Jersey Transit bus driver, went back to school in 2013, he knew it was time to go back and get it done.

It can be difficult to go back to college after making some money, but when his father, who had been retired after 25 years of working as a New Jersey Transit bus driver, went back to school in 2013, he knew it was time to go back and get it done.

Benjamin decided to transfer to William Paterson University to join his father in school. And this past Friday, they realized their dream of graduating together. Benjamin says his father was his greatest inspiration and we are sure their story will continue to inspire and uplift not only others in their family, but throughout the diaspora.

Salute to these fine men for making education a priority in their lives! We wish them both nothing but the best.
