FACTS THAT PROVE THE UNFETTERED POWER OF BOOKS
6. BOOKS COULD BE YOUR DAY AND NIGHT COMPANION.
Because of companionship, many of us marry, start families and have children. Unfortunately, some of our biggest pains and tragedies have come from those closest to us. Books offer you a better alternative. Books will be with you 24 hours without irritating you. I cannot say the same of wives and husbands, even children. Sometimes the story is different. Book are kinds of partner that are with you day and night in whatever condition and circumstance that you find yourself. Unless you get rid of them, they would be there for you. When you are having fun during the day, or when you are lonely at night, your books will be at your side.
“It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.” ― Oscar Wilde
Books will drive away your loneliness. They would help you deal with boredom. They would give you a replacement of fellowship time with people if you lack one. Books could give you a good company when you need it. They could provide you with quiet, nice, memorable and most enjoyable fellowship.
“Sleep is good, he said, and books are better.” ― George R.R. Martin
7. BOOKS COULD BE YOUR BEST TOUR GUIDE.
You don’t need to go to France this summer if you could just afford to buy a book. As a matter of fact, you could buy ten books and be in ten different countries on sightseeing, from the comfort of your home. By the time you are through with such books about the country of your choice, in some cases you could end up knowing more about that country than some citizens of that country. You could save yourself all the ticket money if you could be friends with books.
In actual fact we might not have enough life to go around all the interesting sites in our world but when you are a friend of books, you will easily have access to some of the most exotic of places on earth at your fingertips. You could save yourself a lot of time, changing planes from one airport to the other and get to know more about countries of the world than those who actually travel to those places.
“Books are the carriers of civilization. Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill. Without books, the development of civilization would have been impossible. They are engines of change (as the poet said), windows on the world and lighthouses erected in the sea of time. They are companions, teachers, magicians, bankers of the treasures of the mind. Books are humanity in print. ― Barbara W. Tuchman
Books provide you the opportunity to not just explore other people’s experiences and narrations, you could also enjoy some splendid photographs from those sites.
“All I have learned, I learned from books.” ― Abraham Lincoln
8. BOOKS COULD BE MORE VALUABLE THAN SILVER AND GOLD.
Books really are treasures, howbeit they are hidden. The same thing applies to gold, silver, money or other precious things in our world. The only difference is that unlike these other treasures, books are not always tangible in its treasure. On the other hand, books have the advantage of not suffering the plight of other tangible treasures. The value of books don’t fluctuate from time to time, depending on the economic conditions of the world. The value of books are mostly constant, depending on what books we are talking about. In short, books are an ocean of treasure. You could dive into it and go as deep as you wish. Books are full of precious commodities. If you would be wise enough to extract these commodities from the pages of your books.
“If we encounter a man of rare intellect, we should ask him what books he reads.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
