WHO IS YOUR BEST FRIEND? (PART 7)

A LESSON FOR NOW AND ETERNITY – BOOKS ARE YOUR BEST FRIENDS

Books contain whatever you want in life. You could actually lay a demand in life on books for all your needs. You have the choice, how much value and treasure you derive from books. Books contain wisdom. Books carry value. Books are ever green. No matter how many times you have read a book, the ideas in it are never obsolete. Truth written in books don’t diminish in its worth.

When the principles and truths coming from books are properly applied, it brings about changes. Changes in an individual’s life, changes in the life of a society or a community, etc. Books empower you and enrich you with knowledge, understanding and wisdom.

In the highest civilization, the book is still the highest delight. He who has once known its satisfactions is provided with a resource against calamity.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

9. BOOKS DON’T HAVE ACCENTS.

When you are reading books in your own language, you hear books in your own accent, in your own tongue and in your own voice. You don’t need to bother about the accent of the speaker. You don’t need to concern yourself about interpretation or translation. You communicate to yourself through books in the best language that you know.

“We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel… is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become.” ― Ursula K. Le Gui

10. BOOKS PROVIDE SHARPNESS OF MIND.

If we could say that television encourages the loss of concentration, because of the fact that it appeals to your visual abilities, hearing abilities and emotional capacity all at the same time, not so with books. Books mainly appeal to your mind. Books stimulate your mind, thereby providing you with sharpness of the mind. Books stimulate understanding. They develop in you, creative thinking.

“Books are the treasured wealth of the world and the fit inheritance of generations and nations.” ― Henry David Thoreau

11. IN BOOKS YOU LEARN FROM THE WEALTH OF OTHERS.

Many people have spent thousands of hours and even years, learning what they know. In books, you get that all at ones. A book could be a life time experience of many individuals, yet it is delivered to you in one singular piece. Sometimes it might take 50 to 70 years for somebody to learn a lesson they are writing about in the book. Yet, it only takes you a few hours to go through it.

“Books are the bees which carry the quickening pollen from one to another mind.” ― James Russell Lowell

Books are the wealth of others delivered to you on a silver plate. Books are thousands of years of lives given you in one dose. Books are beautiful things. Books are wonderful friends to have.

12. BOOKS HAVE AN INFINITE LIFE EXPECTANCY.

This is because the blessings and truths contained in books never die. They never wear out. Unfortunately, though, like soap books only help those who use them, just like you remain dirty even though you have soap at home. Until you use the soap, you would never benefit from it’s worth, so also with books.

Ladies and gentlemen, I hope I have been able to make my point clear why I believe books should be our best friends. Books are better than TV. CDs cannot replace books. Tablets, radio and audio are not a worthy competition for books. Fall in love with books friends. Make them intentionally to become your best friends. Only mediocre people stop reading after school. Successful people continue reading after school. Great people read all throughout their life time.

“Books are health food for your brain and dessert for your soul. Books are one of the few proven sources of mental exercise known to man. Reading is a workout for your mind. If your body needs thirty minutes of exercise a day, so does your thinker.” ― Pat Williams

Dear friends, I hope you will learn this lesson for yourself for now and eternity that books are your best friends. I also hope that you would teach this lesson to your children that the process of life is listening, speaking, reading and writing.
