THE POWER AND FORCE OF DISCIPLINE (PART 7)

3 STEPS THAT WILL MAKE THE FORCE OF DISCIPLINE WORK FOR YOU

These are thee things and steps that will make the force of discipline work for you.

#TIP 1: Have an understanding that nothing just happens.

There is a saying that if wishes were horses, even beggars will ride. That indeed is the summation of the fact that certain actions are required before certain results are produced in life. If you are familiar with fine art, when you need to produce a certain colour, all you need do is to mix some other colours in certain proportion and you will get the color you need. In essence, you don’t get any thing in life by wishful thinking of waiting for ‘luck’ to smile on you. There is no such thing as luck on the path to success as true success happens when opportunity meets preparation.

Nothing will ‘Just Happen’ in the Nigeria Situation.

Listen, God is not about to create anything new to cause a success in your life or in our nation other than what he has already done because most times the excuse and religious statement you make like every other Nigerian is that ‘God will intervene’.  We claim we are waiting for God to intervene in the affairs of the nation and cause a change in our lives when he has already deposited in you his gifts, talents and abilities but you have been so lazy and indiscipline to give expressions to those abilities. Could it be true that why your life and our continent are in this state of underdevelopment is because ‘God is looking the other way? Definitely No!

The reason is lack of discipline which you have a responsibility to do something about. Is it really true that the reason Nigeria is where it is today is because God hasn’t made that move to save her yet? No! God has done something already but it will only show when you allow it through the power and force of discipline.

It is time for you to snap out of that false expectation of waiting for a miracle out of the blues. It is a mirage. In 1Kings 18:38, it is recorded that ‘Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench.

One thing you must however note is that, fire did not just fall, Elijah had to do the needful in verses 30-32 and he got the result.

Everyone whose stories I have shared this week did not just appear on the scene because God loves them more than you, rather, they paid the price. You must get up and do the required because ‘the heights that great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.

#TIP 2: Take Time To be Alone with God

One of the greatest disciplines I have discovered, which is about the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but very essential is to lock oneself up for days, alone with God.

You cannot take delivery of God’s secrets if you can’t create time to stay with Him.  How can God talk to you about Nigeria or give you an idea that will create jobs for others when you are so far from him, caught up in every other activity that do not open up your heart to God for inspiration.

As a matter of fact, these are days that there are several things to distract you and stop you from taking time out with God,yet, these are times for you to become like an eagle, riding on the wings of challenges to get the best.  I need to let you know that discipline is a personal choice with God and our commitments are very vital if you will grow in your walk with Him. Now I like to share certain things with you about being alone with God. Things that will help your concentration.

My dear, anytime you come into God’s presence, never be in a hurry to leave God’s presence. While it is true that we really can get busy sometimes, there are emails waiting to be replied, phone calls you should make, papers to sign and other tasks to be done, you must know that you are required to study to make yourself approved. Studying and reading are not the same, studying takes time and effort. If  you won’t rush through watching a two hour movie, or a football match involving your favorite team, why should you rush out of God’s presence who can give you things that pertain to life and godliness!

As an offshoot of that, you should resist the temptation to multitask when you are in God’s presence. Multitasking is good but not advisable when you are in God’s presence. You cannot get the best from God while you are in his presence and you are responding to emails, fine-tuning a report or preparing a budget. ‘Whatever is worth doing at all is what doing well’, remember.

Again, you should learn to trust the Holy Spirit for inspiration. While it is good to make use of other people’s materials such as bible commentaries, devotionals, podcasts and books, always allow the Spirit of God to breathe on the written word. The accurate source of spiritual growth is your continual fellowship with the Holy Spirit and this will deliver deep revelations to you.

Also, you should endeavor to make your fellowship time consistent. You cannot meet with God haphazardly. It is vital you create and stay with a consistent time day after day. If possible, create a particular location. Get up from your bed and go to the place where you have chosen. Do it like a duty and stay with it. In Daniel 6:10, the bible says:

Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.’

Little wonder he was able to take delivery of God’s secret.

#TIP 3: Sit down alone and study

Similar to the second tip above is the discipline to sit down alone and spend time studying. Several times when people ask what my hobby is, I tell them I don’t have any other hobby than to read and study. Reading alone is also one of the hardest things to do, but one of the greatest. When you do this, you are developing yourself mentally and spiritually, you build emotional, mental and spiritual muscles which will help you through life.

Dear, you cannot want to change an aspect of the nation for the better and you have next to nothing in terms of knowledge about the area. You need to lay hands on histories of great men, biographies, autobiographies, journals and articles. You need knowledge before you venture into any field and make impact there. So, be disciplined to study.
