A young boy of 6, who is still in elementary school has the internet in a frenzy and is generating some very serious bank because of it.
Business Insider recently profiled Ryan (pictured), a six-year-old boy who has become a YouTube phenomenon from the videos his mother shoots and produces. In these videos, Ryan reviews all kinds of toys. Late last year, TheVerge.com reported that Ryan ToysReview was the most popular YouTube channel in the United States.
Currently, Ryan’s YouTube channel has well over 10 million subscribers. The channel has also been viewed almost 17 billion times. Everything started with his mother doing what most mothers do. She would record videos of her son opening up toys she had bought him for birthdays and holidays.
Ryan’s mother started the YouTube channel in March of 2015. However, four months later, a particular video of Ryan opening up a giant, toy-stuffed Easter egg of Disney-Pixar’s Lightning McQueen caused the total views number on Ryan ToysReview to quadruple.
Since the giant Lightning McQueen Easter egg video was published in July of 2015, it has viewed over 800 million times. The level of viewership that Ryan ToysReview is reeling in can net a huge amount of money. Off the advertising revenue alone, Ryan’s YouTube channel generates close to $1 million dollars a month.
Ryan’s mother did an exclusive interview with TubeFilter Media about how her family’s lucrative business got started.
“Ryan was watching a lot of toy review channels — some of his favorites are EvanTubeHD and Hulyan Maya — because they used to make a lot of videos about Thomas The Tank Engine, and Ryan was super into Thomas,” she said.
“One day, he asked me, ‘How come I’m not on YouTube when all the other kids are?’ So we just decided — yeah, we can do that. Then, we took him to the store to get his very first toy — I think it was a Lego train set — and it all started from there,” she continued.
