Angel Tyra Muwanguzi is an 8-year old Ugandan pupil who replaced Uganda’s General Katumba Wamal, Uganda’s Chief of Defense Forces. The position lasted for 10 minutes.

Angel Tyra Muwanguzi is a student of ‘Train Up a Child Primary School’, Bugolobi, Uganda.

The idea behind this development is to show that women can reach whatever heights they want in life; that they can square up to men in certain duties.

While speaking about it, Gen. Katumba said:

“We want to demystify the accessibility to this office and so are pleased to be a part of this event to support and inspire girls on this memorable day.”

The ceremony was organized by Ugandan wing of Plan International in conjunction with Gals Forum International, a local NGO. Angel Tyra Muwanguzi’s 10 minute replacement was organized to commemorate the International day of the girl child scheduled for11th October.

“We have closely worked with other government line ministries but rarely with the Defense ministry and so this is a rare and special occasion for us which we hope to be the start of a strong partnership to fulfill girls’ rights.”

 – Plan International Uganda’s Head of Programmes.

Raquelina Langa

A similar case as this occurred with the UN in 2013. Of blessed memories, Raquelina Langa, a Mozambican young girl and a 10th grader was UN’s Secretary General for a day.

She only asked Ban Ki-Moon, United Nation’s Secretary General if it were ever possible that a girl like her could be in his position. In 2014 she got a practical answer. She traveled to the United States to finally replace Ban ki moon for a day.

Steps like these are carried out to motivate and inspire the growing generation, the girl child especially, to be limitless when they dream.

According to a top Plan International Uganda official,

“The Integrated Early Childhood Development Policy has been launched by the Government. We wish to see ECD centers for army children as well.”
