MY CURRENT ASSESSMENT OF THE NIGERIAN CHURCH.

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT ASSESSMENT OF THE NIGERIAN CHURCH?

My current assessment of the Nigerian church is partly what I have said before, but apart from that, I want to say that I must thank God for the Nigerian church. The dynamics of growth that the church has experienced in Nigeria is unprecedented, that must be acknowledged.

We thank God that He raised mighty men of God in our land. Apart from the famous and popular ones that we know, I think there are thousands, tens of thousands and even hundreds of thousands of other men of God that most people don’t even know, that are doing a great job. Thanks to them we are having the revival and the spiritual awakening that our country has been experiencing in the past 30 years.

I think the fact that God has become so popular and the church is everywhere, even though most people think the church is constituting a nuisance to the society because they are everywhere, but I still think it is an advantage and a blessing. It is better to have it like that than to have it the way it is in Europe.

In Europe you can hardly find a church, you can drive kilometers and not find a church. So I thank God for what the church in Nigeria has achieved. But of course the challenges of the Nigerian church have been mentioned by me above. It is a list that is by far yet to be exhausted.

Another area that I think the Nigerian church is getting wrong is the fact that the men of God in this country have chosen to be neutral about the political process of their country. I think it is a wrong position. I think that the men of God are supposed to voice their beliefs and their mind about the running of the country.

If the good people are quiet, then the evil people take over. I think it is morally wrong for men of God to be quiet when they see that the country is going down the drain. I think everybody has the right to voice their position, because they are citizens of their country apart from the fact that they are men of God.

Pastors and men of God are supposed to be given leadership positions, because they are leaders, many people believe in them and I think they must give leadership direction to their followers about political situations in the land, but that is a thought for another day.

TO BE CONTINUED TOMORROW…

Our nation politics goes beyond ordinary and has been to favour some group of people before Jega came on board, possibly, with what we all witnessed in the last election our orientation may change. On the proliferation of churches, I still strongly belief that few among churches of not more than 20 percent are really up to what is expected of a church of CHRIST .
