THE NIGERIAN CHURCH – A MAJOR FACTOR IN THE NATION’S STUNTED GROWTH

DURING YOUR LAST VISIT TO NIGERIA YOU WERE EMPHATIC THAT THE CHURCH WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE NATIONS STUNTED GROWTH. DO YOU STILL MAINTAIN THAT STANCE?

IF YES HOW IS THE CHURCH KEEPING NIGERIA DOWN?

In order for our readers not to accuse me of condemning or judging the Nigerian church and leaders. I wish to state here categorically that I am not talking about any particular ministry. Nothing personal. I am not against any man of God or any denomination. I’m just pointing out what I believe is the truth about the situation in our country.

I wish to hereby appreciate all the men of God that have labored in our country. I think they did their best, I believe they taught us what they know. But we still have to admit that things were wrong, and these things have to be corrected.

I have said it in one of my articles that, we owe it to the fathers and leaders of the church in Nigeria, the progress of the kingdom of God in Africa for the past 30-50 years. These men have brought down the darkness of idolatry, witchcraft, evil spirits, and ungodliness in our continent. The Nigerian church has done a good job by making God popular, making the church grow, making the presence of God felt everywhere.

Oh yeah, I believe that the church in Nigeria is one of the greatest problems we have. Most people make a lot of noise about the fact that the problem with Nigeria is with leadership. That could be partially true, but when people talk about that, they usually refer to political leadership especially of the highest order. In my opinion, the leadership and the structure of the church in Nigeria, is as guilty of the situation in the country as much as the politicians.

We Christians like to judge, condemn and point fingers at the politicians. In some cases some churches are worse and some of the practices in churches might be worse than what the politicians do.
