A Christian street preacher, Oluwole Ilesanmi, 64, had his Bible taken away from him as the police handcuffed him for ‘hate speech’ against Islam, the Scotland Yard has awarded him £2,500 for wrongful arrest.
The preacher was granted compensation by the Metropolitan Police as he had been wrongly accused of Islamophobia.
Mr. Ilesanmi admitted to having described Islam as an ‘aberration’ but said he was expressing his views from a Christian perspective and not as a hate speech against Muslims.
In the video two policemen taking the Bible away, to Mr Ilesanmi.
‘I believe God loves everyone, including Muslims, but I have the right to say I that I don’t agree with Islam – we are living in a Christian country, after all, Mr Ilesanmi told The Mail on Sunday.
‘I was upset when they took away my Bible. They just threw it in the police car. They would never have done that if it had been the Koran. Whatever happened to freedom of speech?’ he further added.
