ASK PASTOR SUNDAY: A program by Pastor Sunday Adelaja (PSA) to relate more closely with users of his blog and followers on social media. His major goal however is to bring light and wisdom into every situation that bothers the mind of anyone, anywhere. All they have to do is Ask!

Here are the questions and answers from episode 1 of the show. Enjoy!

Q: How did you start? What are the ethics of ministry? Did you just start without money or what? How many were you when you started?

PSA: I will not dwell so much on this question; but if you go to Youtube and type, “Pastor Sunday Interviews” you’ll see that I did an interview with Pastor Yemi Balogun. He came here for a month, and we had close to 100 video series, which are already on Youtube. In those videos, I extensively answered questions like these. But just to fulfill your hunger and desire, I wish to say it is a long story, but to cut it short: For the first 4 years I was here in the Soviet Union, I couldn’t get one European saved, I couldn’t even get one Russian come to be a member of my fellowship at that time. So mainly they were only African and Asians. So that is what sent me out on a search. I began to seek what I would minister to Europeans so they will hear the word. Four years later, I started ministering; I went to fellowship with the Russian speaking people and got to know them better. About 10 years later, when I went to start the Embassy of God, I was more ready. But still the church will not grow because we only had 7 people initially, and a lot of things happened that I would not talk about now, but if you go and watch the series of interviews you’ll see the answers to these questions.

Q: You have built the largest European church in Eastern Europe; what are the keys to be successful as a minister?

PSA: First of all, you’ve got to be a God-lover. Some people might say I preach well, some people might say it is the miracles, others might say it is the revelations. But I think my biggest strength is that I am just in love in God. Many people will say, “I too love GOd, why don’t I have the same results?” Well if you love God, you have to prove it one way or the other. One of the ways I prove my dedication to God is that, in a month I will take a week to be alone with God. I take a week in a month and lock myself alone in a room or an apartment, just talking to God and learning from God. And I did that for the next 15 years. So you got to prove your love for God.

The second thing is that you’ve got to love people. People will tell you that I am passionate for people. I love every one of them: good, bad, worse, betrayers etc. It doesn’t matter who they are, I love people. And others will say, “But we too love people; why don’t we have the results?” Well, what do you do to really prove to people that you love them?

In my case, God helped me and showed me the secret to go and look for the alcoholics, the drug addicts, the out casts, the down and outs, and to love them. Not just to pray for them, but to love them. When you are able to touch people with God’s love, I think that is the highest expression of ministry – the ability to touch people with the love of God. To make them feel the love. If people could experience that love first hand, they will not be able to resist it.

Interviewer: Thank you for transforming our country. On behalf of Ukrainians, I can say that you have touched so many lives. It is not just thousands, not hundreds of thousands, but millions.

Q: How do you transform someone’s life? How do you influence them? How do you bring them to God? How do you show them the holiness of God and his love? And how do you serve those who are drug addicted?

PSA: Those who are drug addicts; first of all, you have got to let them know there is a way out. You’ve got to let them know that somebody cares for them. You must be able to communicate to them God’s concern, God’s care for them individually. Just like Jesus said, “I was naked and you clothe me or you didn’t clothe me; I was in prison and you visited me or you didn’t visit me.” So you must treat those people as if you are ministering to Jesus. If Jesus had been in the position of an alcoholic or a drug addict, how would you minister to him? I’m sure you would give your best to him, you’d worship before him, you’d stand before him, and you’d clean him up with your hands, even with your tongue if necessary. If we could minister to individuals – down and outs like that – that will break the power of the addiction. Of course you’ve got to have the power of the Holy Spirit to pray for those people and cast out the demons troubling them and making them addicted. After that, there is the next stage of what you need to do for them: you must find a place for them. It is better to find a residential program for them, to make them stay apart from their colleagues still using drugs. If you could isolate them and spend time with them, pray with them, teach them, and minister to them on a daily basis, I am sure they will come of that a changed people.

Q: Is there a particular strategy you use when you see this problem of addiction in Ukraine in particular?

PSA: Well, the thing I said about casting out demons and loving them and letting them know there is a way out, are the initial things you need to do to get their attention. But then we have a program that is developed by one of my disciples, Pastor Natasha, and it is called, 12 Steps to Freedom for Your Family. So these people go through the program; they go through the 12 steps in a matter of 6 months to 1 year as the case might be, and it helps them gain their freedom and be adapted into a new lifestyle of people who are not addicted.

Q: In summary, how can I shepherd/pastor without tears based on your book?

PSA: Yes, I have a book that is called, Pastoring without Tears. And the reason I called it pastoring without tears does not mean you don’t face challenges, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have challenges nor troubles in ministry. Actually, I am going to write another book that is called The Apostolic Troubles. You have a lot of challenges, a lot of sorrows, but in the midst of it all, you’ll also discover that his yoke is easy and his burden is light. So, pastoring without tears does not mean you don’t cry before the Lord. It doesn’t mean you are not broken before the Lord. That is not the kind of tears we are talking about. We are talking of tears of complaints, sorrow, or sadness when you are ministering to God. But Jesus was right. His yoke is light and his burden is easy. You can discover the secrets of serving God and still enjoy the process. So that’s what my book is about, and it is real.

I still count myself as one of the most troubled ministers in the world, if not the most persecuted in the world. Out of the high profile pastors in the world, I am probably the most persecuted, but I am still enjoying the ride and call myself a pastor without tears in the sense that, No regrets.

Q: Why do most of us find it difficult to succeed: in business, family, marriage etc.?

PSA: As far as I am concerned, anybody can succeed anywhere. And we can all succeed in whatsoever we put our hands to, but we must know the principles of success. Most people fail because they do not know the principles of success. And another category of people know the principles of success and are not willing to pay the price for them. To succeed, you must the principles and laws of success and you must also be willing to pay all the price for whatever success you are looking for?

Q: How do you differentiate the fake man of God from the real ones?

PSA: Well, by their fruits you will know them. Every man of God though has got one weakness or the other. There is no way you will find a man of God that is perfect. The problem is that we are looking for a perfect man of God. So seeing a weakness in him does not mean he is not a man of God anymore. Look at his fruits. Despite the weaknesses of the man of God, you will still see the fruits if they are real. If they are not real, the fruits he will be bringing will be more of destruction, more of negative tendencies than the positives. But those who are really called of God, despite their failures, despite their imperfections, they still have better fruits to show for it.

There is no single man of God in the Bible that is perfect, and God revealed them to us. Everybody had an issue. Still God used them. Why did God let them be in the Bible with their weaknesses?

Just so we would never expect perfection from men. Look at Abraham – he had a lot of issues. He had several wives and he gave the wife off as a sister, lied, but still he was a man of faith and the father of nations. Look at Jacob, Isaac, Solomon, Samuel, Solomon, Isaiah, Ezekiel, every one of them. Only Jesus was perfect. The problem we have as believers is that we expect perfection from men. The fact that you don’t know about other people’s imperfections does not mean they are perfect. Everyone’s got an issue. God is trying to say that He uses people who are available, and not necessarily perfect people.

Q: How do we pray efficiently? What must we do to keep a consistent prayer life?

A: You must first understand that prayer doesn’t mean you must be in a special place, be on your knees or something. Prayer doesn’t have anything to do with that. It doesn’t have anything to do with you telling yourself you are praying. Prayer is relationship with the father.

Smith Wigglesworth said, I don’t pray more than 15 minutes, but I don’t let 15 minutes pass without praying. So he doesn’t pray like we do, but he communes with God. We must realize that prayer is more of communion with God than the tradition or ceremony of it.

Q: What do I do if my pastor sends me out of the church?

PSA: Go to another church. I am sure that is not the only church in town.

Q: I would love for you to coach me in fulfilling my purpose.

PSA: We have a coaching program. It is called Mentorship program with pastor Sunday. It is an online program, but we don’t leave you alone. We make sure you get a mail from me every week with some assignments. If you go to sundayadelajablog.com, you’ll see a banner about the mentorship program, fill the form and send it to us. If you need to ask me questions on some personal issues, just write me. And I reply everybody that writes me.

Q: How do I break free from poverty?

A: I have an article, “The laws of money”. If you go to my blog – sundayadelajablog.com, search for “The laws of money,” read the article and it will be very helpful to you. On the other hand, I have written a book that is actually a best-seller. It is called, “Money won’t make you rich.” If you go to any Christian bookstore, you’ll be able to find that book; also on Amazon as well.

Q: How does one know the particular geographical location to settle down in life for effective purpose fulfillment?

PSA: First of all you must have a burden for a particular geographical area. You must either have a burden, compassion, or a leading of the Holy Ghost telling you that you need to be in that particular part of the world. Also you must have a purpose while you are there. You don’t just think one particular place is better because of the outward reasons like wealth, material things.

Q: When are you visiting our nation Botswana?

PSA: I know Botswana. It is a great country. I think it is one of the wealthiest country per capita income. So it would be nice to come see what the leaders are doing differently from other people in Africa. But why don’t you come see me in Ukraine – I am giving you an open invitation. Maybe afterwards, I can go see your country.

Q: What is our continent one of many problems like war, diseases and several other problems? Is it because of lack of intellectuals?

PSA: I will not say it is because of lack of intellectuals. I’ll say because of lack of education, maybe, but not only that. There are many reasons why African is called a Dark Continent. Take Ukraine for e.g., Christianity alone has been for over a thousand years. In Africa, however, many countries only got their independence about 50 years ago; the colonial masters basically kept everyone oppressed so that they could take what they want without being challenged. Africa needs time to get to where it needs to get to.

1) We need to get our people to be literate

2) We need to teach them the right principles of life. We must set our continent free from superstitions.

3) We need to make our leaders be more focused on getting the countries developed rather than on meeting their own needs alone.

4) We need a concerted effort on many fronts to get Africa out of the darkness it is in.

It is much better now than it used to be, so I think we are getting there.

Q: How do we get direction in life and know what to do?

PSA: Firstly, he that is led by the spirit of God are the sons of God. I spoke earlier on about prayer because I know that prayer is a relationship. If you have a relationship with God and you are focused on communion with him, you’ll get used to hearing his voice.

2) Practice solitude – being alone with God for a long period of time. That also helps.

3) You have to follow the inward leading of the Holy Spirit, and of course

4) The word of God is the ultimate tool of hearing the voice of God.

Q: How do we grow in grace?

PSA: We can grow in grace by:

1) Humbling ourselves.

2) Submitting ourselves in prayer to God.

3) Fasting; when we deny ourselves earthly things so as to get stronger in the spirit.

4) Being in the fellowship of God.

Q: what would you advise a young pastor whom God has told to start a new church?

PSA: Firstly, talk to your pastor or leader about it; let them give you some advice. Secondly, read everything possible from successful ministries so you can learn their secrets. Next is to be alone with God and hear clear and specific instructions from him.

Q: Do you have a branch of your church in Nigeria? If not, why please?

PSA: Yes, I don’t have any branch of our church in Nigeria, now. I think Nigeria has a lot of churches. We need churches that are doing the right things. SO, what I would rather do is to help pastors who are on ground to improve what they are already doing, and help them to be more effective. Maybe it will happen someday, but what I would love to do in Africa is to help people resolve their enormous problems, especially that of poverty. Those are the things I will like to focus on rather than starting a church.

Q: What has helped you accomplished so much as you have?

PSA: What I have accomplished in Ukraine is but 5% of what I am anointed to do. I think that most of what God would do through me will come after I leave Ukraine. I believe that if God lets me come to Africa, I will do much more than I have done in Ukraine.

As per what helped me succeed, you have to love God and love people, and prove them by what you do.

Q: I know a great woman of God who is married to the third man and the last husband has her as the fourth wife, and all ex partners are alive. How do we reconcile this with the scriptures?

PSA: I think you shouldn’t bother about that; that is not your problem. Jesus said to take care of the log in your own eye, rather than checking out the peck in another person’s eye. We are not called to pin-point other people’s sins; we are called to fix our own issues. Give people understanding rather than condemnation. You don’t know what her story is like. If you have never been to where people have, never judge them.

Q: You mentioned you are coming to Nigeria, but not to start a church? What other purpose is there to coming back?

PSA: I just said it, trying to help the churches that are already there and also trying to help Christians do church the right way; to also go ahead and minister to Nigerians out there whether Christian and Muslim. I have several platforms to do that, and that is why God has trained me for the last 30 years. I am an expert in getting people’s problems resolved. I can do that easily without necessarily starting a church. It is not only by starting a church that you can be used by God. God is not short of ideas and instruments to use to help people. Church is just one of them.

Q: What is the future of your home country? And what do you think about President Buhari?

PSA: I think that in the next 15 years, Nigeria will be in the top 15 countries in the world; and if we do better we can be in the top 1- countries of the world. I think that is a good thing. I just pray that Nigerians will not get distracted by little little things that could bring division or a split of the country that could abort this dream of Nigeria being in the top 15 countries.

About President Buhari, I think God had mercy on Nigeria and allowed us to choose Buhari. I wonder why people are complaining when President Buhari has only been there for 6 months; he needs to be there for 6 years before you can say if you are satisfied or not. There is so much decadence in the country that he needs time to clean up the system and turn things around.

Q: Speaking about future, there’s been so much change around: technology, ways of raising children etc. How can we handle the rapid changes in our environment?

PSA: With changes come shakings, which means a lot of discomfort and unpredictable things. We must understand that things are changing around us, thus we need to judge people less and understand more. I used to be a master in judging people, but with all the changes, I can see that:

1) People need time to adjust

2) People need support, more love, teachings, and direction.

We need to learn and develop ourselves rapidly. Do self-education, find mentors who have held their ground in trying times, and when you see their mistakes don’t be in a hurry to judge them, but know that everybody is in a learning curve. We must hold unto God and know that everything in this world is shaky and temporal; and when all fades, only God will remain. We need to build a strong relationship with God so that we will pay less attention to the things of this world and know that our eventual home is heaven anyways.

Q: DO you think God can create anyone evil and predestine them for hell?

PSA: No, not really. I think God created everyone for good. After he created man he said it is good. God created us originally good; we learn evil as we grow up. God doesn’t intend for anyone to go to hell. Jesus died so that no one will go to hell. The death of Jesus is a strong statement to show that God doesn’t want anyone to go to hell. We should take advantage of His death and call upon him to help us to escape hell.

If we put our trust in God and hang on to him, we’ll escape hell.

Q: Sometimes we question God, especially when we see catastrophes happen to children of God. Some people have started asking why God is so cruel. Why murders, why catastrophes?

PSA: I also experienced a catastrophe when my covenant brother, Myles Munroe, died. I would not say, “Why is God so cruel?” I would rather say, why is satan so cruel? Why are people so cruel? Or why is the world so cruel? But not, Why is God so cruel.

I think God will not violate our will because of the liberty he has given to man. He gave us free will. He will not violate the will of someone determined to do evil. God could punish the person and make the person reap the fruits of his evil works, but God didn’t make him do that. We know that satan is the one responsible for evil. Satan came to steal, kill, and destroy. So whenever you see destruction like that, be sure that it is not God causing it. God is not behind it. I would rather think that God allowed them to die so that He could take care of them. I think those people are in a better place right now, and have received a grand welcome from God. Yes, the families of those who died might grieve, but they must understand that God gave them the gift in the first place. And that is the story of redemption. God loved the world and loved man so much that he gave man a whole planet. Satan however entered our planet and tried to destroy us, but God came back to help us and rescue us. So I would like to see God as someone who is on our side, someone who is fighting for us; someone who is making the evil in this world not to be as much and plentiful as it should have been.

Why is God not stopping all these things?

It is because God has given authority to man to stop these things.

There are good people and bad people in this world, and only good people can work to release the good news to the bad people before they do evil. So it is our responsibility to stop and lessen the amount of evil happening in the world. If I don’t take the gospel of love and redemption to the bad people, they will continue in evil. We must take responsibility and give others opportunity to reconcile with God and become born again.

Q: Is there a difference between religion and faith? How do I know that I have crossed the line into religion?

PSA: Yes there is a big difference between religion and faith. I would describe religion as man’s attempt to find God. However faith is accepting God’s attempt to redeem man and give man a chance. When man is trying to find God in his own strength, he misses the mark and uses all sorts of methods that might not really be appropriate to do more evil and more damage than good. But when you know and accept God’s attempt to redeem man, then you know you are loved, and then you know it is not you trying to please God in your strength. And once you accept his love, you know you need not kill anyone to please him. When however you don’t accept God’s compassion, you try to do everything to please him without knowing that it is God that is trying to find you.

Religion can be dangerous, but faith in God can be wonderful and beautiful.

Q: In these last days, and with the latter glory greater than the former, what best can we do to be radical soul winners aside witnessing.

PSA: To be a radical soul-winner,

1) Identify a problem bothering your community or the world.

2) Have passion to resolve that problem.

3) Look for a technology to help you reach out to people who have that problem.

4) Have a system of making money to finance that project.

If you have those four things you can change the world and make it a better place.

Prayer from Pastor Sunday: Whatever your name might be, imagine you are before God right now. Try to see yourself in God’s presence.

Father, I join my faith with your children right now, and I agree that everything they are believing you for is released to them right now in Jesus name. Be it healing, deliverance, and blessing upon ministries; be it calling, give them a supernatural answer, Lord. Visit them in several ways – through cassettes, videos, books, and let them know that you have heard and answer them.

To ask a question, please send a message to pastor@sundayadelajablog.com or or Pastor’s Facebook page (Pastor Sunday Adelaja) and we will take the questions. You can also watch this sessions and others and keep up with Pastor Sunday’s latest events via his YouTube channel Sunday Adelaja Official.

PSA: Thank you so much for the trust and for throwing your questions at me. I hope you are helped. God bless!

My area of concern that I need enlightenment is a topic of REDEMPTION OF THE FIRST BORN which I know is common in the Jewish race of course we are the spiritual and en-grafted jews by reason of our new birth, but Its is a teaching that needs clarification for me . 1. Must we redeem our first born again after Christ has been come our propitiation. i mean our sacrificed lamb of redemption? 2. Are we to redeem the male first born only or does it include cases where our first child is a female? 3. How much and what currency is required? 4. Is there a different amount for the male and the female ? 5. Is there also different amount for different ages of male and female 6. What will a man who is the first born to do especially now his married with children too. He heard this message and is compelled to act.
