UNTIL YOU STRETCH YOURSELF, YOUR POWER WILL NOT BE RELEASED
The power in discipline is that ability, capacity and strength to do something. The force in discipline is the energy, influence and effectiveness generated to accomplish a task. When you combine both the power and force, what you realize is that you generate strength, ability, energy, influence to effectively accomplish any task before you.
You must realize that, the force and power of discipline are in a potential form. Until you stretch yourself, that power will not be released. You should realize that stretching yourself is a conscious effort that you must make. When it appears that you have reached your end and you can’t go ahead, give it a little more push and the latent power of discipline will come to work. When you ask many people who achieved anything tangible in life, at the beginning, they felt they might not be able to accomplish such feats, however, in spite and despite the fear and doubts, they went ahead, they took steps, that step could be as little as enrolling for a course, it could be starting a regular practice, it could be waking up at a particular time of the day or engaging in one activity at a particular time. Whatever it is, the beginning definitely isn’t going to be easy, but when you keep at it, when you push further, when you remain consistent, the power you need will begin to flow from within you because it is resident already on the inside of you. It will however not manifest until you put it to work.
That is the spirit we need as Nigerians and Africans to bring an end to poverty, maternal mortality, female genital mutilation, corruption, insecurity and other myriads of challenges confronting our continent. We need to engage the force of discipline to think deeply and come up with a lasting solution, we need to engage discipline to establish pressure group and NGOs that will spearhead the movement against corruption on our continent and you are the one we are waiting for because you have what it takes to do just that.
The Power and Force of Discipline in the Life of My Protégées
In my several years of being a pastor and church leader, I have had the opportunity of being a mentor to several believers through some of the trainings I organize. One thing I have discovered is this, so many of my protégés never knew they could get to certain heights until they signed up for some of the training sessions we put in place.
By virtue of the components of the training, many of them were practically forced to do things they had never thought they could do and never planned to do in their lives. However, because failure to do the assigned tasks was met with some measures of punishment, they had no choice but to unleash the force of discipline in them. Until they disciplined themselves, and did the given tasks by force, the power they had in them did not get activated. Many of them had to stay awake in the night or spend extra hours to read a book, or to prepare a talk and today, some of them are pastors of churches and leaders. The discipline they learned back then makes it easy for them to successfully combine the task of leading other people with working in other organizations. The discipline has become part and parcel of them.
In the same way, I can tell you my dear that, there are quite lots of thinking you can engage in, that will birth solutions to the many challenges confronting the Africa continent. Despite the fact that you are employed in a white collar job and it demands you time, you can actually still become an entrepreneur and create value in Nigeria. It is possible for you to write that book, sing that song and take that examination. You can establish that company and it becomes big even with what you have because what it takes is in you. You already have it. If the millions of youth on the continent of Africa will simply pursue one idea to a logical conclusion rather than wait for government jobs that are not forthcoming, we can bring about an industrial revolution in Africa. You have the capacity to do it but until you really begin to discipline yourself to go a step more and do the things you consider out of your reach, the force of discipline will not be unleashed.
I can tell you numerous stories of countless humans like you who have accomplished great things through the power of discipline, but you must know that there is a dormant force in you, which you have the ability to unleash or suppress, but when it is developed and released, you can accomplish incredible and seemingly unbelievable things in life. That force is the FORCE OF DISCIPLINE.
