THE ROLE OF THE CHURCH IN BUILDING NIGERIA
The doctrines that have been preached in our churches in Africa and globally have not been helpful in raising believers to dominate the earth. We have mainly been taught to just stay in the church, be faithful, serve the church, and serve the man of God period. We have been taught that all that matters is to make sure you make heaven, avoid sin, be holy and you won’t go to hell. Mission accomplished!!! But is that really all there is to being a Christian? Is that really all there is for the church to accomplish?
It is time we understood that the church is here to train its people in the doctrine of the kingdom. The church is here to raise men and women who will reign and dominate in their spheres of influence. As such, its effectiveness is a measure of how many it trains in that light rather than how many it gathers. Our attention must move from gathering people to actually training them. We must begin to train and raise people to become mature and responsible sons of God.
To achieve this, the messages coming from our altars must change. We must have a shift! I call it a “CHURCHSHIFT” It is time for us to move on to our promised land!!! It’s time to begin to believe that with God on our side we can build a prosperous nation and continent.
The gospel that has been preached in our churches has not been fair to the African continent. It has left us in a beggarly state, waiting on God for things we could produce by and for ourselves. Our churches are full of people during work hours, morning, noon, evening, praying instead of being in the factories, libraries, laboratories, facilitating economic growth. We need a shift in our message and in our pulpit.
We must now begin to show people that the development we all crave for is in their hands. God has deposited something ingenious in each and every one of us. He has put something in us for the benefit of our beloved country.
Just imagine that every Christian in Nigeria took a hold of this message and went out there to do something. Imagine that every one of us only dared to fulfill the first out of the 7-fold instruction God gave man in the book of Genesis where He said to be fruitful!
What do you think will become of a country with 80 million fruitful people?
What will become of a nation where 80 million people were productive?
Can you see that the problem of Nigeria is largely one we have created for ourselves?
Our idleness and lack of spiritual understanding is what has kept us where we are.
