Dear Pastor On Monday the 6th of February there were protests in some parts of Nigeria. The aim was good governance. This is a noble thing. It was not a very popular protest based on the pictures we see. It is evident that many Nigerians though challenged do still see President Buhari as a pathway to hope. In addition, beyond the negative noise, people are seeing slow but sure changes at grassroots. For instance, Akwa Ibom State has twomajor federal roads leading into it- Aba- Ikot Ekpene road and Uyo- Calabar road. The Aba-Ikot Ekpene road was COMPLETELY washed away. On getting to Ikot Ekpene, citizens had to travel by motor bike to Aba. The Uyo- Calabar road is a 92 Km Road. Some parts were totally washed away. The journey took 7 hours instead one one hour. Sometimes it was impossible to get to Calabar. Today, Uyo Calabar is fixed and back to an hour's journey, while Aba- Ikot Ekpene is being redone. The truth is that under the surface, there is an UNPRECEDENTED scale of national reconstruction happening. However, we need to ask ourselves a BIG QUESTION: WHEN WILL WE STOP THE HABIT OUT OUTSOURCING GOOD BEHAVIOUR? When will we have a march aimed at the average Nigerian citizen? A few years ago I was in a meeting with a State Chairman of the PDP and a State leader of the Christian Association of Nigeria. In that meeting, the State Chairman of PDP said "the only way to change Nigeria is for you in the church to change your message and preach ethics, integrity, good behaviour, consequences of evil, etc."He also said "the political class will not on its own be able to change the nation because politics does not touch conscience but religion does." Nigeria is like a badly bleeding wrestler. Buhari/osinbajo are like two medical personel fighting to stop the bleeding, but as they minister salve, thousands of other people continue to stab the wrestler. Every day millions of Nigerians litter the streets, forge documents, drive drunk, pay bribes, quarrel with neighbors, break traffic rules, cheat, tell lies, kidnap, etc etc etc. These little stabs committed by millions of people add up to Major blows against the nation on a daily basis. When I look at the attitude of most Nigerians, what I see is the picture of a baby, who soils his pants and then cries for mummy to fix it. He screams and blames mummy until she does something about it, then he goes and soils himself again and the cycle continues. This goes on until the baby grows up and is able to take responsibility for his biological functions. Then he no longer needs mummy to relieve himself. I see marches against the government and that is fine. But I ask myself, when will we have campaigns, marches and news reports challenging citizens to do better themselves? Is the government not made up of people who came out from among us? We litter the streets, pay bribes, maltreat our neighbors, mess our workplaces, skip work, abuse people, cheat the system and do so many other things that add up to a broken nation. Then we turn to the government and ask them to fix it. Why do we only demonstrate because we are hungry? Why do we not walk against so many social vices we see every day at grass root level? The very same people complaining about the Government and participating in these marches are not doing well in their spheres of influence. They maltreat their staff, park their cars in no parking zones, etc. There is no organization nor religion nor group who succeeds only by the efforts of leaders. Any success comes both ways. Perhaps sir, you can rise up and call for a citizens led "change begins with me"march. I for one will march. I also know there are many Nigerians who are looking for this kind of mobilization. The stage is yours sir! May God help our mindsets. and bless our nation
