HOW TO MAXIMIZE YOUR LIFE AND REGAIN LOST TIME (Part 4)

A GIANT TIME AND PRODUCTIVITY KILLER WE MUST ALL AVOID

  • Daydreaming is a great time killer

What otherwise would have taken a shorter time to accomplish will take longer due to lack of concentration. With daydreaming, you have to invest more time to get things done than normal. But if you discipline yourself to focus on the job at hand, you will be more efficient and complete it faster. While you are daydreaming, time is flying and you are losing more years. For instance, an assignment that would have taken four hours to complete may take you six hours due to daydreaming and that means two hours are lost.

  • Daydreaming makes you less productive

For instance, imagine a student who spent five hours in the library studying and daydreaming. Although he spent five hours, the productive hours may actually be three hours. He had lost two hours and those hours are lost forever.

The goal in regaining our lost years, which is to invest maximum value into every second and hour, has been defeated because although studying, he lost two hours. The amount of work accomplished is not commensurate with the time invested. The same goes with employees, although a worker gets paid for eight hours of work, it is well-known that the actual amount of hours invested is less than eight hours. If employees would invest maximum value into every hour they are supposedly working, their productiveness would increase tremendously.

The habit of living in active consciousness will not only save time but it will increase your productivity. Imagine how much you will achieve if you will only discipline yourself to give 100% attention and focus to whatever task you are involved in.  You will be amazed at your level of productivity because the same amount of hours will yield greater results.

Without daydreaming, you can read more books within the same amount of time. Without daydreaming, whatever you do, you will produce more results within the same time frame. In summary you will produce more without daydreaming!

  • Daydreaming reduces your speed

When you are working and daydreaming your speed will be reduced. But with full concentration, your speed increases and you will achieve more within a shorter time.

In regaining your lost years, it is important to realize that you cannot work at the same speed as your younger contemporaries. They have the advantage of youth and time. So this calls for a change of attitude towards your speed of performance. You need to double or triple your previous speed.

Working more than eight hours daily is not an option, it is a necessity. You need to borrow a leaf from most successful people who work 16 to 18 hours every day. In the same vein, you cannot afford the luxury of sleeping more than six hours daily. You have got to reduce your sleep hours. This is a race against time and to win, you must change your life style, habits and attitudes.

  • Daydreaming reduces the quality of your output

With full concentration, you will deliver not just more but better results. This is because you are paying more attention to details unlike before. While daydreaming, you may not notice errors because your brain is multi-tasking and your attention is divided. Because you are trying to regain your lost years, you need to get rid of the habit of daydreaming in order to invest maximum value into every hour of the day.

Without the distraction of daydreaming, as a student, you will have better grades and as a worker you will work better and rise faster in your career. And as a business owner, you will deliver goods and services of better quality leading to more patronage and ultimately, more profit. Your workmanship will improve and your business will grow faster.

HOW TO LIVE IN ACTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS

To live in active conscious and stop daydreaming, it is important to query yourself every two seconds to ensure that you are still focused on the task at hand.

Ask yourself, “What am I doing now?” This question is to challenge your present train of thoughts, if it is still in line with the task you are presently engaged in. You have to be conscious of every second and minute and ensure you are present in the here and now and avoid travelling in your mind. Supposing you are reading a book, and you pause to think on what you have read, it is possible to drift from that book to another thought but when you ask yourself, “what am I doing now?”, it will re-route your thoughts back to the book.

In addition to querying your present thoughts, it is very important to query every activity you are engaged in to ascertain their relevance to the attainment of your goals. Your goal every day is to invest maximum value into each hour of the day and living in active consciousness is to ask “Am I doing that?” “Did I invest the maximum value towards achieving my goals today?” “Did I live a fulfilled life today?” You ought to continue querying yourself till it becomes a habit and you start to live in active consciousness unconsciously.

To be continued Tomorrow, don’t miss it.
