THE POWER OF FOCUS.
As we all know by now, the key to regaining our lost years is to invest maximum value into each hour of the day. And in this article we will discuss another principle that will help us achieve that. It is called the power of Focus.
Focus, according to the dictionary means to fix (as one’s attention) steadily toward a central objective. It means to fasten, center, rivet or concentrate on something. Focus means to pay particular attention to or concentrate on something. When you focus on a thing, you direct all energy towards the object of your attention and it enables you to achieve more result than otherwise. There is power therefore in focus and concentration.
But I would like to describe the power of focus using the laser technology. Let’s consider the electric bulb hanging in the room where you may be sitting right now. It provides light to brighten the entire room. It provides a little bit of heat but not enough to burn your skin or the items in your room. It is not powerful enough to heat your water or cook your food. This is because the light energy from that bulb is dissipated. It has some amount of energy or power but because it is dispersed, you cannot use it except to brighten a room.
However, when the principle of laser is introduced, the same light rays will be totally different. The laser technology employs a laser which is a device that concentrates the light rays many times over till it emerges as a single but powerful beam capable of so many things.
This single laser beam is so powerful that it can penetrate through materials that ordinary light cannot. It can cut through clothing materials, skin and through metals. Laser beam can produce a lot of heat to cook your food, burn your skin or burn the whole house down. By focusing and concentrating those otherwise weak and dissipated light rays, a single but powerful beam was produced. That is the power of focus!
When you focus and concentrate your energy and attention into any given task, you will achieve huge results. In regaining your lost years, the ability to focus and concentrate on the task at hand like a laser beam will help you invest maximum value into that hour. Assuming you were given one hour to accomplish a task, the amount of value you are able to produce within that hour depends largely on the power of your focus and concentration.
Angela and Christy are both colleagues and friends. They work in an insurance company. They are both married and have little children. Recently they attended a financial seminar and learnt about having more streams of income. Since both share a passion for baking cakes they decided to supply cakes to a supermarket in order to make more money. They did the market survey and found shops willing to accept their goods. Due to their jobs and their families, they have only weekends to engage in their part-time business.
Angela decided to give this business her full concentration. She did a lot of research during her free time on how to bake good quality cakes and different types of cakes. She studied the different flavors and their market demand. She invested some of her savings to purchase some equipment that will make her work faster as well as every other utensil she needed. Then she re-organized her kitchen and created a special corner for her bakery. She labeled all the cabinets and arranged the ingredients for easy access. Then she created her recipes and arranged them neatly in a file.
Then came Saturday, before her kids and her husband were up, Angela was in her special bakery corner mixing her cakes. She didn’t turn on the TV for the early morning shows, but she focused on her baking. By noon, she had fifteen dozens of cupcakes cooling on her kitchen cabinet ready for supply.
Christy on the other hand purchased some ingredients and some utensils. She asked her daughter to put them away, but didn’t know the exact cabinets where she placed them. She didn’t plan on the exact type of cake to bake but would decide later. Saturday morning, she woke up at the same time as her family members and decided to prepare breakfast. After breakfast, she turned her kitchen upside down searching for some items her daughter put away for her.
Eventually she started mixing the cake but realized that she needed an ingredient, so she dashed off to the nearby store to buy it. Her husband had turned on the TV so as to enjoy the early morning shows and she watched while she baked. By noon, she had two dozens of cupcakes ready for supply as well.
What is the difference between these two friends? The power of Focus and Concentration! Angela was focused on making her new business a success and her focus and concentration made her to take steps in organizing her baking routine, getting all her ingredients ready, getting up early and turning off the TV. Her Focus and Concentration on the baking produced more cakes and earned her more money than Christy.
Christy on the other hand was distracted. Her attention was split between watching TV, conversing with her family members and baking etc. For her to excel in her new business and make more money she needs turn off all distractions and engage the power of Focus and Concentration.
With Focus, you can produce more results within a specified time than a person without focus. When you give any task your full concentration, you will produce more results within a shorter time. Through the power of focus, you can invest maximum value into every hour of your day. Through the power of focus, we can concentrate our energy, attention and skills like a laser beam and generate maximum and inconceivable results.
With Focus and Concentration, you can read an entire book in one day unlike a person who is not focused. With Focus and Concentration, you can attend to more customers on your job, produce more goods and services, maximize time and produce more value either to you or to others.
With Focus and Concentration, you will produce goods of higher quality. For example, an accountant who is focused on her job, not distracted by phone calls, noisy colleagues or social media notifications will have fewer errors in her work. The quality of your output is enhanced by the degree of your focus and concentration.
