The Lagosian Celebrates Pastor Sunday Adelaja As His Ukraine-Based International Church Marks 22 Wonderful Years

Twenty two odd years ago,  a young Nigerian sojourning in a foreign land, Ukraine precisely, embarked on the execution of a God-ordained vision to help transform a nation just emerging from the largely atheistic Soviet Union to a vibrant, God-like, Christian nation. It was a grand vision for a young, impressionable “foreigner” in a country where English, his own nation’s lingua franca was not even the national language and was scarcely spoken.
The odds were immense but in the true Nigerian never-say-die spirit, Sunday Adelaja challenged the odd, guided by the unction of God and, today, that tiny seed has grown to become the largest and fastest growing church in Europe.

Nigerians are generally a nice, hard working, resilient and ambitious people. Everywhere we go and in every venture we embark upon,  we love to excel. We love to win and in the past,  this never-say-die spirit has earned huge respect for our nation. In recent years, however, due to the unscrupulous and dishonest acts of a tiny few, especially the get-rich-quick lazy drones such as drug traffickers, money launderers, advance fee fraudsters and corrupt politicians whose acts of infamy have had serious negative impact on the life of their fellow citizens and those of other nations, our national image has been so battered that many innocent Nigerians are made to suffer untold ordeal outside Nigeria.

Then came blessed souls like Pastor Sunday as he is fondly addressed. Through the seed of faith he planted in far away Ukraine in 1994, and the mushrooming of the church from humble beginnings to an international Christian sensation, a great boost has been given to the promotion of everything that is good and enviable about Nigeria. Whenever you travel to Europe now, people who have been so inspired and whose life has been impacted up  by Pastor Adelaja tend to think twice before they stereotype or malign Nigerians. It was the extent of the power of one over years of mal-adventure by others.

Through his faith, resilience and obedience to the call of God, Sunday Adelaja has not only impacted on his nation Nigeria, he has helped transformed his adopted nation of Ukraine. Hundreds of thousands of lives have been renewed and redirected on the path of grace and the nation of Ukraine has never hesitated to show its gratitude.

God desires to reveal Himself to people and to establish His Kingdom on earth in order to change everybody’s life for the better. But He always starts with small things.

That’s why on February 6, 1994, seven people got together in one apartment in Kiev to worship the Lord and to know His Word. They didn’t even have an idea that they were laying the foundation for one of the biggest churches in Europe.

This was the beginning of the Word of Faith Church, which in ten years would have about 20,000 members and more than one million people receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

On September 12, 1994 the church was officially registered at Kiev City Administration.

God has a big vision for His church: from growing a strong church with thousands of members out of a handful of people who will take the Gospel into all the world (primarily into China and Arab countries) and will make all nations disciples of Jesus Christ, establishing His Kingdom on the Earth.

God found a man with the potential for making this church’s vision a reality. He called Sunday Adelaja from Nigeria to serve Him in Ukraine. Right now Pastor Sunday has an international apostolic ministry, helping plant new Christian churches in Ukraine and other countries as well.

WHO IS SUNDAY ADELAJA?

Sunday Adelaja is the founder and senior pastor of the Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God for all Nations. Though still young, he has attained a high level of ministry that many follow as an example. He is first and foremost a dedicated and passionate Christian, who seeks to follow God and complete everything that God has spoken to him. This passion and dedication spills over into the leaders under him and onto the members of the church.

Pastor Sunday is used mightily in prophetic and evangelistic gifts around the world. God’s gift of healing flows through Pastor Sunday and countless people have been healed, restored and set free by his ministry.

Pastor Sunday is not only an international speaker and pastor of the largest church in Europe, but he is also a loving husband to Bose Adelaja and the responsible and happy father of three children – a son, Perez, and two daughters, Zoe and Pearl. Pastor Bose Adelaja is a fitting helpmeet for Pastor Sunday and their gifts and callings complement each other perfectly. Whenever possible, Pastor Sunday travels with his wife and children.
