HOW TO PRACTICALLY GROW YOUR PASSION INTO OBSESSION
To grow your passion into obsession and set yourself in motion for a great and impactful life, the first thing you need to do is discover your passion, your purpose, and your calling. Once you have discovered your passion, that discovery itself will begin to swell up your zeal, and you must nurture that zeal for total fulfillment.
Don’t just be docile about it. Make sure that you value that passion that comes to you, but if you just disregard it and you don’t nurture it, it will never become a consumable zeal. Without attending to it, it will never become a zeal that can overwhelm you. You must nurture it until you are obsessed with it, maybe by thinking about it, studying about it, by building tactics and strategy about it that you will use to accomplish the goal.
So for that passion to grow and become an intimate part of you, you must begin to do research about it. You must study more about that area of passion that you have and begin to come up with ideas and other things that you could do with that passion. You can go about this by studying what other people have done with that same or similar passion and how they used their passion for changing their world. Then you discover what you want to contribute to your world with that passion like what you want to do in your generation and what you want to be remembered for?
It is your personal responsibility to figure out what you want to contribute to your generation. Decide for yourself; I want to leave my mark in this particular area, I want to leave my footprints on the sand of time of my generation in this area and let it consume you. Let that passion consume you. Let that desire take over you.
As you are studying about your passion and thinking about how you can use it to impact your world, the passion will swell and gradually become an obsession, but you must regularly cultivate that passion and attend to it on a daily basis. If you don’t do that on a daily basis, it won’t develop into zeal, and it won’t become an obsession for you.
Therefore, for it to become an obsession, you must nurture it. Then another thing you should do is to ask yourself what platform you can create to help you use that gift to reach other people. So you need to sit down and study different types of platforms, maybe a blog, Facebook live, website, YouTube etc.
You must come up with the best platform to be able to connect you to the people that need what you carry. The zeal that you are already gathering by now will start propelling you and give you the energy to pay the necessary price that is required to keep you going. When you identify your goal and your purpose, that goal and that discovery will brew energy in you. It creates in you some unbelievable energy that you can ever imagine. That is what we call zeal.
You must be possessed and obsessed by zeal for you to do exploit in life. It is that zeal that will help you to push forward that idea, purpose, and goal like an obsessed person.
Have you ever seen an obsessed person act? You see the way addicted people behave? They don’t care about anything; they go for it. If you really want to win in life and make an impact in life, you can’t just say you have a passion and leave it unattended to. You must be working on it on a daily basis.
To maximize your passion, you must be committed to working on it daily, studying about it and doing something about it daily. It is when you do something about it all the time that the passion won’t die but rather becomes a zeal and an obsession.
Determine for yourself what you want to be remembered for, whose stories you want to change, what you want to contribute to humanity, how you want to be remembered and how many destinies you want to touch.
Once you have done that like I said, go and create a platform; a platform could also be an NGO. A church can also be a platform. It could be a civil society. It could be social media, Networking etc. but don’t just sit down doing nothing and expect God to do it for you. That is what people who go to church do. “Oh am waiting that God will help me”, No! Take charge of your destiny and begin what you need to do to win in life.
When you identify your platform, the next thing you must think about is how the platform will reach as many people as possible. That is when you have to start thinking about the promotion of the platform. For instance, if you want to use “Facebook Live” you don’t just sit and have just 2 or 10 people to view you live.
You must know how to promote yourself in order to reach more people. If you have an NGO too, you need to find out how to use NGO to reach as many people as possible. So you have to start the marketing, promotions and see how you could promote yourself. The more people you reach and impact, the better.
The next thing you must pay attention to is the work itself. You must be willing to put in works without the expectation of immediate rewards. That is what a lot of people don’t want to do. The common question most people usually ask in situations like this is: “what’s in it for me?” if you are talking about your passion, calling, purpose, you shouldn’t be asking yourself what’s in it for me instead you have to…
“…seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” ― Matthew 6:33
First of all, you have to be committed and prove to yourself and others that you really want to get this thing done. It is only after you are totally sold out to that passion, goal, and purpose, that help will come. It is only after you have totally committed yourself and use all the necessary resources you need to use and you have shown to God that you are absolutely committed, that is when God will start to bring blessings and favor to you.
But if you are just sitting around and praying without commitment, you can’t deceive God. That is like getting something for nothing. God won’t allow that to happen. You must commit your own money, time and friends to that goal. You must do everything within your power to make it a success without any assistance. That is what will convince God that you believe in what you are doing, and that is what will attract other people’s favor and support. Only after that could it be profitable. So you must be willing to work for your vision and passion without any reward.
The next thing you need to do is to make sure that you speak up on any issue that is related to your calling. Many people are silent, and silence of the righteous is killing the world. When the righteous keep silent about issues that matter, evil will continue to spread unhindered.
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” ― Edmund Burke
As rightly stated above by the Irish Statesman, Edmund Burke, the reason for the triumph of evil is that the good men do nothing and they say nothing. Your platform must be a place for you to speak up and talk about the right values and about the kingdom’s principles.
The reason why you need zeal and a passion and obsession is for you to be able to change the system of the world to align with the kingdom of God and make the latter to supersede and dominate. That is why your platform is for you to speak out and an opportunity for you to be able to proclaim the values of the kingdom of God.
It is no longer news that a lot of things are going wrong in society and you may be tempted not to talk about it because of the fear of attack. Your passion and goal should be more important than your reputation, but if you are more concerned about your reputation you will never do what is right, you will never believe what is right, and you will never speak out. But the goal to change the world and to be committed to the right value system and the principles of the kingdom of God must consume you.
