When Jordan Smith hit the piano with his rendition of “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” Monday night, you could hear a pin drop as the audience sank into silent awe with his soulful performance.
It not only prompted a standing ovation from the audience, but the song also soared to the number two spot on iTunes in just one hour. The Top 12 contestant on “The Voice” brought all 4 judges to their feet, and OUT came the tissues.
“Coming off the weekend and the horrible things that happened over in Paris and just kind of having a heavy heart the last few days, thank you for that,” said Blake Shelton.
The next morning, the song went one step further when it kicked Adele and Bieber out of the top two spots on iTunes. “Hello” and “Sorry” had to settle for seats 2 and 3 to make way for Jordan Smith.
Even non-religious viewers praised the song. One commented, “I’m not religious or anything. This is just brilliant.”
Smith says the worship song reminds him of “growing up and singing in church with [his] family.” “God provides,” he said. “He’s like, ‘I’m going to do everything for you, all you have to do is wake up every morning and be who you are.’
