Hello everybody, we are still on the Nigerian Presidential elections and I am giving a vote of thanks to the deserving citizens of Nigeria who played a significant role in these peaceful elections. I think we owe our gratitude to INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega.
Prof. Jega has done a wonderful job. I think he deservedly got praises from all over the world. I think it’s now time for Nigerians, especially the elite and outspoken Nigerians like myself to acknowledge and appreciate this man for the sacrifice he made.
He deserves applause for all the good things he did. He had a principled position, He displayed solid character, his attitude was impeccable and he masterfully weathered all attacks. He didn’t bow to all the opposition’s pressure that were coming against him. He maintained his integrity and made sure he gave Nigeria the best election results we have had in recent years.
Professor Jega, you are a modern day hero. You are a hero to this generation of Nigerians. You have just proven to all of us and to the next generation that it is possible to be honest. You also proved that it is possible to be sincere and truthful in the Nigerian society.
You made it clear that it is possible to go against the powers that be and still don’t compromise. You have proven yourself to be an incorrigible leader. We know that your actions would be a positive example to future leaders of our independent electoral commission (INEC). They would be following in your footsteps.
We believe that you have laid the legacy of truth, and henceforth we will now have leaders who will be dedicated and more interested in committing themselves to the truth rather than to pleasing men at its expense.
Thank you for standing your ground. Thank you for voicing your opinion when it mattered. Thank you for not seeing yourself under the influence of any political power or political office holder.
I think Nigerians owe you a huge debt of gratitude for the victory we have today. We are celebrating largely thanks to your principled position, your commitment and your sacrifice.
I want to use this opportunity to also say thank you to the family of Professor Jega. As a leader myself with a lot of commitments I can imagine how few the nights are that you spent at home, how few days in a week your family got to spend with you. I can imagine how few a times they saw you all through the elections.
We really want to acknowledge the family, wife, children and even parents of professor Jega. You people have made a huge sacrifice. It is not just your son, father and husband that has sacrificed, but it is all of you. You have all added and contributed to the general victory of Nigeria and Nigerians. We sincerely want to appreciate you for it. Thank you so much.
May God raise up more faithful, more principled and more truthful individuals like Professor Jega, to govern the affairs of our beloved nation.
