The Power Of Solitude And 7 Reasons Why You Need It!

Practicing the act of Solitude is not something many Christians are familiar with. However, it is as old as the our Christian faith itself and is a necessity for any Christian, who craves a successful walk with God, and the fulfillment of His purpose here on earth. Here are 8 reasons why solitude is important to your faith.

1.Jesus practiced going for solitude regularly.

“And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.” Matthew 14:23

“Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.” Luke 6:12

2. It provides the Christian with an opportunity to be alone with God.

I must say here that the kind of solitude I recommend is being alone with God not with multitude of people. You could still go to a meeting or a prayer retreat with many people, it is also important, but the most effective is the one that is done alone.

3. Mountains are always a place of revelation.

When a man is alone on the prayer mountain(solitude), God often reveals himself to them.

Now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. 29 As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening. 30 And behold, two men talked with Him, who were Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of His decease which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.” Luke 9:28 – 31

“Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by.” 1kings 19: 11a

4. Everything precious is always given birth to in solitude.

When man gets to be alone either with himself or with his creator or with another person, creation becomes possible. For example the great artist, minds, writers, etc all got their inspirations mainly during their time of solitude. Guys like Salvador Dali, Michelangelo, Johann Sebastian Bach, Beethoven, Thomas Edison, Sir Isaac Newton, etc. All these people were people who regularly practiced solitude and that is why they were able to give birth to great things. Hence all great things come through solitude.

5.Human Life is conceived in solitude

On a more domestic front, the most precious entity in the world is human life. A careful examination of the process of conception of human life takes us to a place of solitude as well. A man and a woman have to get to a place of privacy and solitude for them to be able to conceive. That tells us that when man also in the same way gets together with his creator in solitude conception takes place. Solitude with God is a place for pregnancy. This is also a place to receive great ideas, and creative ideas from God.

7. God opens the heavens and shows us His plans

John 5: 19Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.

This is why Jesus practiced solitude to be able to see into the heavenly realm. When we practice solitude, God opens the doors of heaven and He allows us to see into his plans and into the future.

8. Solitude is a place for purification for man.

A place where man changes from his sinful nature and puts on the nature of God. It is a place of transfiguration. The glory of God descends on somebody that practices solitude and changes his nature by the glory of God.

Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Matt 17: 1-3
